Financial Social Work
Financial Social Work
Financial Social Workers work with clients to change their thoughts, feelings, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors as it relates to how they earn, spend, save, share, and borrow money. Financial Social Workers work to assist clients in stabilizing their finances, reducing and eliminating their debt, reducing and eliminating unnecessary spending and impulsive/emotional spending behaviors, and then increase their income along with their savings, and – eventually – diversifying their assets for long-term financial security and independence. The therapeutic goal of Financial Social Work is to reduce anxiety, depression, anger, impulsivity, and sociality that one experiences in connection to their finances, while increasing feelings of self-efficacy, self-control, happiness, and resolving past traumatic experiences related to money, income, work, and spending.
